Experience
Maxine Lee has been working in the field of
immigration law since 1995. She
began her career at Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle (now Nixon Peabody
LLP), in the fields of commercial litigation and employment law, but
developed a strong interest in the area of immigration law.
Ms. Lee then worked at Ronald W. Freeman, P.C., a
law firm practicing in the field of business immigration law. She next served as in-house immigration counsel for RCG
Information Technology, Inc., where she worked closely with human
resources personnel to develop immigration policies and to prepare
non-immigrant and immigrant petitions for staff. Most recently, Ms. Lee was employed by Ronald W.
Freeman, P.C. as a senior associate, responsible for managing all
operations of the firm.
Education
Maxine Lee graduated magna cum laude from
SUNY at Buffalo Law School in 1993 with a Juris Doctorate degree. While in law school, her article titled
"A Life Preserver for
Battered Immigrant Women: The 1990 Amendments to the Immigration Marriage
Fraud Amendments" was published in the Buffalo Law Review. Ms. Lee also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Asian American
studies (with honors) and chemistry from Brown University in 1988.
Professional
Admissions and Affiliations
Maxine Lee was admitted to the New York bar in 1994 and
to the New Jersey bar in 2006. She currently serves as the Treasurer of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
In 2007, Ms. Lee received an AILA President's Commendation for Outstanding Fiscal Analysis Contributions to the AILA Comment on the USCIS Fee Increase Proposed Rule. She is a frequent speaker on topics relating to business immigration law.
Ms. Lee is
a member of the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey. She was previously the Founding President of
the Rochester Asian American Bar Association, a member of the
Asian American Bar Association of New York, and a member of the
Immigration and Nationality Law Committee of the Association of Bar of the
City of New York. Ms. Lee was a member of the Society of
Human Resource Management and the Human Resources Association of New York, where she presented annual immigration law updates.
